As the cold weather and the darker day’s approach, self-care becomes another important part of your routine. Although, self-care should be part of your lifestyle any time of the year, during the winter time it might be especially beneficial. With the grey skies and the lack of vitamin D, it is good to keep yourself active, mentally + physically healthy, and warm in different ways for this season.
One method of self-care is to journal your day’s events! This will help you collect all your thoughts, emotions, aspirations, and more. Not only is it a great way to organize yourself + your mind, it is also a great way to chart your goals and potentially achieve them. Daily journaling is a great way to keep your mind at ease and to keep it positive. Challenge yourself to write at least once a day, even if it is a submission of a few words. Moreover, you can add a creative twist to journaling as well. You can change things up and draw your day out in your journal. It doesn’t have to be very complex or a drawing that goes through the whole day, it can be as simple as drawing one little aspect of your day. You could also choose to photograph parts of your day and add them as well. Better yet, you can do all three aspects and combine them all in your lovely little journal! In the long run, this method may prove to be an amazing addition to your life.
It is also important to keep yourself active during this season. As it gets colder you may see yourself getting less motivated to go workout. With the summer, it may be easier to go outside for a run in the sun or to do other summer activities such as hiking or biking. However, you can still do fun activities indoors. Join a dance class, go to a drop in yoga or barre class, kickboxing, soul cycling, or maybe even go to indoor swimming. There are many things you can do to keep things enjoyable while keeping healthy. It is also ideal to go outside to soak up some vitamin D. Of course, there may be clouds, but it is still important to go outside. Not only will you get some fresh air, but it will be equally as good for your body.
Last but not least, make sure you consume warmer foods for these months. Try out various soups, teas, and other hearty meals. Choose warm meals that contain a mix of vegetable and foods that have good nutrition. Also, make sure to drink a lot of liquids and to keep your self hydrated. We tend to forget how thirsty we are when it is not hot outside, but this is an important factor for your health. Attempt to eat or drink things that will make you feel good and stay good for the cold months ahead!
