Due to recent events in the world, people everywhere are washing and sanitizing their hands more frequently (hopefully). This can lead to dry, painful, cracked and even bleeding hands. This is called irritant contact dermatitis, caused by direct damage to the skin by harsh ingredients (such as the drying alcohol in sanitizers) detergents, and constant contact with water. Open cracks on the skin can allow for infections to set in, making the situation worse.

What can be done to heal the skin?

Emollients are an essential part of healing hand dermatitis. They repair the outer dermal layer by locking moisture inside the skin and making it soft and supple again. At Maple Organics, our Skin Therapy balm is formulated to have your skin feeling soft and healed in as little as one day. Even our furry friends can benefit from our soothing balm when their paws become cracked and dry in the winter.

Skin Therapy is full of skin loving ingredients. It contains coconut oil, a known antibacterial and antifungal oil. This helps to keep out harmful bacteria that can cause an infection. Olive oil is high in squalene, a substance that mimics your skin’s natural sebum, and full of antioxidants that fight environmental skin damage. Shea butter is full of fatty acids including linoleic, oleic, stearic, and palmitic. These are rapidly absorbed into our skin and act as a “refatting” agent by rapidly creating moisture and restoring lipids and the barrier between your skin and the outside environment. Kokum butter is one of the most emollient butters available, and it is easily absorbed by skin making it ideal for dry hands. Containing essential fatty acids like omega 3 and 6, kokum is lightweight and rich in nutrients and the polyunsaturated fats contribute to a healthy and balanced skin barrier, keeping it plump and hydrated. Organic lavender essential oil helps soothe the discomfort and soreness that comes along with damaged skin.

Using Skin Therapy after every hand wash will help keep hands hydrated and plump and heal any damage that has already occurred quickly. For even more moisturizing benefits, apply a liberal amount to hands before bed and wear cotton gloves for overnight relief.

Our organic, non toxic Vaseline alternative is also available with organic grapefruit essential oil. Not only is this best selling balm great for dry hands but here some other uses people swear by!

Just purchased the Maple Organics Skin Therapy from Kristine at a local trade show. Between working two jobs that are relatively taxing on my hands in terms of dry skin, this seems to be an excellent remedy! Right away, the pomade style cream soothed the dry and itchy skin on my hands. Plan to use this for years to come!-Kyle Jilks
